The Bridge Across

Imagine the world as a huge meadow. There is the fresh green grass and the blue cloudless sky. Imagine every single person as a flower. Fill the meadow with these people. What do you get? The same purple flowers with a few differences. One flower is wilting, while the other stands straight.

We try to draw comfort in travelling through a path through which almost everyone has travelled before. We know that it is safe. It's been tried and tested for many years. So if a problem exists, its going to affect everyone and not us alone. But at the end of the path what do you see? The nice green meadow, but the same flowers. A few scarred, a few less scarred. Some fell harder, while others had a softer fall. But they have been through it all. We are still the same purple flower.

What if we try to be different? Ha! People laugh! You can't be different! You won't survive! Follow the path which already exists, its safe. But lets challenge ourselves, lets take a different path. It will be tough, but we got one chance - might as well use it.

We begin. But there is no path. It doesn't exist. Fine, lets create it. We begin to create it. We start on our journey. We come back to the beginning. That path lead us no where. Try again. This time we went further and found that the path ended at a crevice. Never mind, start again. Now we reach a river but we can't swim. We look around again. But all other possible paths are worse.

We are drowned in frustration. We are stuck for many days. There is no food. Hunger sweeps through us. Finally out of desperation we try again. We reach the river. Why not build a bridge? But we have never built a bridge before. We try and the bridge collapses. Finally after learning much, our bridge is built. We cross it.

Things start getting tougher. Every challenge seems to crack us down. But every solution seems to build us up again. Each time better and stronger.

Finally after years of travelling, we reach the meadow. We have taken twice as long to reach it. Frustration and desperation almost killed us. But we also learnt. We built a bridge across.

We enter the meadow. Its filled with the same purple flowers. But what about our flower? It's a bright yellow flower that stands out in the sea of purple. Which is the first flower that's going to be noticed? The yellow of course, standing out, waiting to be plucked.

Why do we dream? To chase those dreams and make our own path. We may fail many times, but we will succeed eventually.

Break away from routine and dare to challenge yourself. You may not find your pot of gold under the rainbow. You may find it under a thorny bush. But hey, you found it. Go build that bridge across and be a flower that stands out in the meadow. Dare to dream. Dare to be different. Dare to make your own path.

  • Hi "who ever you are".
Tell me, do you see yourself in someplace five to ten years from now? Don't you have that desire deep down somewhere to be someone?
What I'm trying to say is that people tend to shy away and chose an easier path. I can't wake up in the morning and go work in someplace knowing that I could have been something and someone else. Yes you can fail. There is no law which says you won't nor is there one which says that you will. But if you can be careful and plot and plan yourself, there are more chances for you to succeed. It all revolves around the attitude you have towards success and failure.
I don't believe that only certain people are gifted. Everyone is gifted in different ways. You simply need to find that 'different way'.
In the end if I don't succeed, at least I will die knowing I tried. I won't have that feeling of regret that 'who knows it could have worked if I had given it a shot'.
But all said and done, there is reality I agree. There is much that life demands out of each one of us. It all boils down to our choice. Are we ready to build a castle or let it remain simply as a floating figment in our sleep?
But if you can believe, and if you are confident and have the right attitude, you have crossed the bridge.

You do make sense in your own way. It's my view, you don't have to subscribe to it.

    Cheers,
    varun
