The eye of the beholder

Winter's end and summer is nigh,
Not a cloud seen, in the sky.
Soon it will be, time for spring,
The nightingales have already begun to sing.

The sky seems blue, the colour of joy,
The river plays about, the sand being her toy.
Trees dance together, to the hum of the birds,
The young hearts run away, away from the herds.

My heart beats louder, calling out to my love,
There...she answers me,as she calls out to me now.
Oh...its just the sound of leaves talking to each other,
I haven't found her yet, why doesn't she call back, brother?

Clouds suddenly appear and pour down drops to the Earth,
The clouds are not dark, but white across their girth.
The wind blows about, as my ropes of doubt untie,
It whistles in my ear, as it passes me by.

I learn a valuable lesson, from the image that I see,
That love on this Earth, has always been for me.
It, but lies in the eyes of the beholder,
The beauty of love, strikes the young and the older.

The moon does change form, attracting the oceans of the land,
The waters cannot rise high though, withheld by the love of the sand.
The wind blows about, searching for itself in vain,
If it only could have known, only love for another can gain.

The clouds talk to the sun, through the thunderous sound,
Through he raindrops pouring below, its joy it does expound.
The Earth receives the water, an unfailing task,
Oh...love of a better kind,how could I ever ask?

  • The first thing that comes to anyone's mind when we hear the word "love", is "attraction", most often, attraction of a boy to a girl and vice versa.

But, what most of us fail to realize is that love is not just confined to such a situation...

Love is also what a mother shows to her son, what people show to their pets and what animals in turn show to each other.
But, as everything in this world comes in pairs, so, does love. The flip side, of course, being the love for money and other material pleasures. For, greed is but an intense form of love.

But, from a broader point of view, love is what drives this world around....It is present in everything present in this world,in things we did not even think, would possess love.

The raindrops ,but fall below, out of love for the ground. And the grass does grow, but out of love for the tired one.

  • hey Spoorthi.....thanks a lot for your comment...it really makes a difference when somebody appreciates your work.

By the way, which year did you pass out from Bethany?

  • wow venkat! i have read a lot of poems written by people our age - many being just attempts and others pretty decent. But frankly I havent seen anything with so much style. What makes reading what you write a pleasure is that evrything is simple but yet so beautiful and also so traditional. Would love to read more.....

  • I'm speechless... partly because it is an excellent work... and partly because I read it with a broken heart.

Harsh Lessons

There are certain things that you realise in your dealings with people everyday...ordinary people who you meet everyday often give you insights into things that you probably never thought of before.
One such realisation struck me in the recent past, which I'd like to share. We spend our entire lives meeting new people, getting acquainted and making friends.Very often people have lots of friends, but when it comes down to it,there are only a select few who are actually genuine.People don't care about the friends they have now as they feel they will make new friends later on and replace the ones that they do have.Thats why very often when fights happen, many of them just resign it to the fates and say that maybe this was how its meant to be.Its sad but I have seen it happen. And if you actually sit down and think about it you realise that even your closest friend does not know you or everything about you completely. Then why do we bother?
People I once thought were my friends have become strangers to me and I wonder how that happened.I often question myself, but I seem to draw a blank. But this has not shook my faith in friendship because i now realise that mine is not an isolated case.It just hurts to know that your so-called best friend is not the person you once knew and cared about.
Ultimately all of us are alone, but we have a constant need to surround ourselves with people who are our friends.I just hate the fact that friendship comes with an expiry date!!!

  • Long back, when I got the email from Varun about this "new" blog, and i saw the plethora of addresses in the 'To' line, I thought "O my! This is going to be great!" But what happened? We have only a bunch of members who are registered in here, and some of them even forget there is something like this. (And some are mad about their own blogs, they only post hi-visit-my-blog-bye here). All others, which is sadly a majority, are left to our hope. We hope they are fine, but are they really?

  • Even the great master, time,
    Cannot do friends apart,
For nothing can break the promise,
Of friendship made by a sincere heart.

    Hi Ranjana,

To tell you the truth, I don't quite agree with you when you say that friends come with expiry dates....I think that a friend once made is a friend forever. And in this context, afriend who will forget you once he makes new friends, I don't think was ever a friend at all.

But, having said this, there are times when all of us have a feeling that a friend doesn't care anymore...and I think that the best thing to do in such a situation would be to continue to trust your friend, trust that he will always be there for you when you need him,(which Iam sure is true if he is a real friend),for, friendship is but a synonym to "trust".

I can't quite comment on your situation since I don't know what happened, but, this is my personal opinion.

  • i know friendships are relationships that last....guess like u said,i have made a few mistakes...

By Blogger ranjana, at Mon Feb 13, 09:27:00 PM GMT+5:30

  • I think you have misunderstood what I said....I am not trying to say that you are losing friends because of your mistakes alone.....all that Iam trying to say is that if a friendship is really a true one then there is no reason why it should not last rather than 'expire' very soon.

By Blogger Venkat, at Tue Feb 14, 10:24:00 AM GMT+5:30

  • Hmm...i'd disagree with the both of you and also agree with on a few points..

I look at things this way - friendship yeah is great, but enjoy it while it lasts. How ever close we are to some one we cant't really say what will happen over time. Because people tend to change..and we cant really stop them. So everytime I build a relationship i give it all i can but also keep in my mind that it may not last forever.

But as Venkat was saying, friendships can last.. but for a friendship to last both the people need to take an active part in keeping it alive. And you cant really blame someone if they chose to change or you cant really blame yourself for that matter, because in the end..if everyone thought about everyone else this world would have been so much of a better place and we wouldnt have so many people with so many problems.

And if you question yourself and draw a blank everytime, that doesnt really mean you are wrong and its your fault can it? Infact if something is your fault you wouldnt be able to not think of it...unless you are some concienceless thing...

Give all you got but dont expect the return, and when you dont you'll see it coming ten fold in a different way in another form.. Thats what most people say, but its difficult not to expect..

Me..

Hello!!

I had typed out this nice long post in the evening when i was at college but there was an unpredicted power cut..so it all went poof! - lost in cyber space..

Well, I am posting at quite an unearthly hour - 1:44 AM. I just took a break so I thought I'd post something up and give Naveen a nice decent reply to his question..

What have I taken a break from? Work. I'm working on the audio post and music composition for a short film. So I just stay awake and work till my quality of output drops.. I'm doing this along with a friend from college. He's done the video edit and I'm doing the music and the both of us are doing the audio post. Good fun.. It's surprising how when you enjoy something you lose track of time and just dont feel tiredness hit you.. Reminds me of what Mark Twain said - when you enjoy work, it's no longer work - its play. So i here I am playing away into the wee hours of the morning!

So thats what I'm upto presently..
My course will done pretty soon to..gonna be very very interesting..

So cheers.. and lemme get back to where I was..
